The All-New Chevrolet E-Ray

Chevrolet gives the world an electrified AWD Corvette

Developed to be the Corvette owners can arrive in anywhere, no matter the season, the new E-Ray - available in removable roof coupe and hardtop convertible models - uses electrification to enhance the driving experience with intense straight-line performance, all-weather confidence and sure-footed grand touring capabilities that can only be achieved with eAWD.

E-Ray is also the only sports car pairing two separate propulsion system to provide naturally aspirated V-8 power with electrified responsiveness powered by eAWD, making it one like none.

The E-Ray is the quickest production Corvette in history, clocking a 2.5-seconds 0-60 mph time before breezing through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.

A near immediate feeling of thrust from low-end torque is core to the Corvette driving experience, and the E-Ray packs plenty of it. Power comes from the 6.2L LT2 Small Block V-8, putting 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. It is complemented by an electric motor that channels an additional 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque through the front wheels via a 1.9 kWh battery pack, which is located between the seats. In total, E-Ray produces a combined 655 horsepower from both the electric motor and Small Block V-8.

Creating its own lane

E-Ray's intelligent eAWD system is constantly learning the road surface, seamlessly adapting to meet traction conditions and driver needs. During spirited driving and in low traction environments, E-Ray's eAWD system applies additional power to the front wheels, helping to enhance vehicle stability.

There is no need for plug-in charging for the E-Ray's battery system. The battery is charged via regenerative energy from coasting and braking, as well as during normal driving.

Additional features and technologies of the all-new E-Ray include:

  • Stealth Mode: an electric drive mode for the street, up to 45 mph
  • New lightweight lithium-ion 12-volt battery: that supports the LT2 V-8 engine's stop/start functionality
  • Standard Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system: for optimal braking performance
  • Standard Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 with three distinct suspension settings
  • Staggered 20- and 21-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires are available with optional performance package
  • Low, wide stance with crafted body styling that is 3.6 inches wider overall than Stingray
  • Visceral sound experience that embodies the car's dominating presence. The electric front motor works in harmony with the LT2 engine to create an invigorating sound
  • Enhanced roster of driver assistance technologies (shared with all 2024 Corvette models), including Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking.

MORE NEWS

Chevy has published a video on its YouTube channel that shows Chevy truck owners how to properly determine the maximum towing capacity for their particular vehicle.

This video starts by explaining some basic towing terminology for less informed viewers. This includes Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR), which is the maximum allowable weight of the vehicle including passengers and cargo, along with Gross Combined Weight Rating (GVWR), which is the maximum allowable weight of both the vehicle and the trailer it is towing. Terms like Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and Tongue Weight are also addressed, which are the allowable max weights for the axles and the trailer hitch tongue, respectively.

Once Chevy truck owners know these terms, they can pull up their phone or computer and visit Chevrolet's dedicated online towing information guided, which allows the user input their truck model variant and model year. The website will then provide the user with the correct trailering information for their vehicle. Users can also check the towing section in the user's manual included with the vehicle, or simply check the trailering information label in the driver's side door jamb.

There's one other way that Chevy truck owners can determine the maximum towing capacity for their truck, too. Users can tap the Load Calculator function in the MyChevrolet mobile app, which will allow the to input all their trailer information into the app. The app will then automatically calculate the combined weight ratings and determine if the vehicle with the hitched trailer is ready to hit the road, or if it's too heavy.

Check out the video above to learn more about these methods for determining the maximum towing capacity of the Chevy Colorado, Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado HD.

General Motors has released a video instructing owners of the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV on how to get the most out of the compact car's standard regenerative braking system.

Regenerative braking is an important tool for EV owners, as it can extend the vehicle's range by harvesting the kinetic energy from the car's inertia and feeding it into the battery. The Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV both feature on-demand regenerative braking that is controlled via the steering wheel-mounted paddles. When the vehicle is coasting and the driver wishes to use regenerative braking to slow the vehicle, they can pull the paddle to active the system, at which point the electric motor will begin harvesting energy and the vehicle will start to scrub speed.

The Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV also feature seamless regenerative braking when in the standard 'Drive' mode, which will use a smaller amount of regenerative braking to slow the vehicle when the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal, without them having to pull the steering wheel paddle. The user can adjust the strength of the automatic regenerative braking, will four regenerative braking levels to choose from. The Bolt EV and Bolt EUV also feature one-pedal driving, which allows the user to rapidly slow the vehicle by simply lifting off the accelerator.

Mastering regenerative braking can be important tool for extending the range of an electric vehicle and will therefore be a skill that many drivers will learn to master as more EVs begin to hit the market in the coming years. While the only Chevy models it's currently offered on are the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV, similar regenerative braking control systems will likely appear in the Chevy Equinox EV, Chevy Silverado EV and other future EV models from the brand.

Power in the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV comes from a single, front axle-mounted electric motor rated at 201 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, which receives energy from a 65 kWh lithium-ion battery. This setup provides an estimated driving range of 416 kilometers in the Bolt EV and 397 kilometers in the slightly larger Bolt EUV.

Check out the video above to learn how to get the most out of the regenerative braking system in the Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV.

Modern vehicle technology is powered by a range of external sensors and equipment, including visual cameras. In fact, some Chevy vehicles are equipped with as many as nine external cameras, depending on the model and options selected. New, we're taking a closer look at what it takes to make sure these cameras are clean and ensure they stay in good operating condition.

The first step in keeping the external cameras on your Chevy vehicle clean is to locate them around the vehicle body. To start, vehicles equipped with the Rear Vision Camera system will mount a camera around the rear Bow Tie emblem or new the tailgate handle. For vehicles equipped with the HD Surround Vision system, another three camera are placed around the vehicle body, including one up front in the central grille, and one under each sideview mirror, all of which complement the rear-mounted camera located near the Chevy Bow Tie or tailgate handle.

Some Chevy vehicles also offer the Surround Vision System with Trailering, which can include up to two accessory cameras to mount inside the trailer and outside the trailer. There's also an available Bed View Camera, which is placed in the Centre High-Mounted Stop Lamp, near the rear of the roof. This is also the location for the operational Rear Camera Mirror feature, although this can also be placed in the rear shark fin antenna or rear spoiler, such as with the Chevy Corvette C8. This camera may also be in the rear spoiler or near the Rear Vision Camera mentioned earlier, depending on the vehicle in question.

Some Chevy vehicles also offer Curb View Cameras, which leverage the Surround Vision cameras placed in the sideview mirrors. Finally, some Chevy vehicles are equipped with a front-facing camera located behind the windshield for use with a variety of safety features, such as Automatic Emergency Braking and Forward Collision Alert.

So then, with all these cameras located, how does the owner keep them clean? Simple - water and a damp washcloth should do the trick. What's more, the rear window washer feature will also rinse the Rear Camera Mirror.

Check out the video for a detailed walkthrough on where the cameras are located and how them clean.

C8 Corvette Cockpit Earns A Ward's Automatic 10 Best Interior Award

Once upon a time, a car reviewers and critics would frequently criticize the Chevrolet Corvette's interior for its sub-par build quality and abundance of hard plastics, but not anymore. The C7 Corvette was a massive step forward for the nameplate with regards to interior design and quality and the C8 Corvette took things even further with its contemporary layout and swath of high-end materials.

Now General Motors is reaping the rewards of the Corvette's improved interior - literally. The C8 Corvette cabin was named to Wards' Automotive's 10 Best Interiors list for 2020. Oshawa GM Plant Begins Production of 10 Million Face Mask

Workers at Oshawa's GM plant have begun work on producing 10 million face masks over the next year, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Tuesday.

"As we speak GM employees are making these masks, they will keep people safe and help slow the spread of COVID-19," said Trudeau in his public remarks on May 26. "For the autoworkers in Oshawa, this contract will support good, well paying jobs in an industry that's faced tough times."

The formal announcement from Trudeau comes after GM stated in April that a portion of its sprawling Oshawa plant would be converted to face mask production. At the time, GM officials said the company would produce a million masks per month for the Public Health Agency of Canada at costs.

In a statement on Tuesday, GM officials said the company received its medical device license to produce the mask on April 22 and the machinery has been installed, materials had been sourced and workers had been trained over the past months.

"This is one of the proudest moments in our history to be able to step-up and support all Canadians during this challenging time." said GM Canada president and managing director Scott Bell in statement. "With the support and collaboration of the Government of Canada, we will start production in Oshawa today and deliver 10 million face masks to the Public Health Agency of Canada over the next year."

Bell recently detailed safety steps at GM plants including screening, cleaning and sanitizing, wearing protective equipment and social distancing.

In April, GM Canada Vice-president of corporate affairs David Paterson said the Oshawa site was selected not only because of its capacity but because it has clean room facilities. That allow GM to source material and build a Canadian mask-making clean room with enhanced safety protocols.

GM Targets May 18th For Reopening Plants In U.S. and Canada After COVID-19 Shutdown

General Motors is targeting May 18th for reopening its U.S. and Canadian vehicle assembly plants, the automaker said in memo sent to UAW members on Tuesday.

"GM plans to begin a limited, cadenced, and site-specific approach for a return to the workplace in a many of our North American manufacturing facilities," the memo said. "We are targeting Monday, May 18, and we are collaborating with state governments and union partners. We are confident that we have an approach that allows us to move into this next phase with safety as our guide."

Crucially, GM has agreed to pay workers who are forced to quarantine for up to 14 days. The UAW has said the Big Three must agree to pay workers who are self quarantining after contracting COVID-19 or coming into contact with some one who had the virus, as employees may be apprehensive to report systems if they believed they would lose pay over it.

GM outlined the safety measures it will take to curb the spread of COVID-19 at its production plants once they come back online. These protocols will include taking employees' temperatures when they arrive at work, setting up hand sanitizing stations and staggering work shifts to reduce the number of employees that are concentrated in one area. The automaker developed the handbook using lessons learned at some of its plants in China and Korea, along with its ventilator production facility in Kokomo, Indiana.

GM is expected to make an official announcement with regard to the May 18th restart date sometime on Wednesday.

General Motors Will Begin Making COVID-19 Ventilators This Week

General Motors will officially begin making ventilators at its components plant in Kokomo, Indiana this week will ship the first 6,000 units to hospitals before June 1st.

GM is making Ventec Life System brand ventilators under a government contract that will see it deliver a total of 30,000 of the life-saving devices before the end of August. GM workers were already present at the Kokomo compartments plant last week preparing the site to produce the ventilators. Ventec has had to retain GM workers on how to make ventilators. Ventec has had to retain GM workers on how to make ventilators, while the automaker has also begun producing the necessary components necessary to put them together. In a statement, GM spokes person Dan Flores told Automatic News the company is not making the ventilators at a profit.

In addition to the ventilators, GM is also making face masks at its Warran Transmission plant in Michigan to help address the PPE supply shortage at many U.S. hospitals. It began shipping the face masks out last week and has since doubled the production output on the masks.

GM has implemented strict safety measures at the Kokomo and Warren facilities to protect employees working there. Employees have their temperature taken with a contactless thermometer upon arriving at the plant and work at spaced out work stations. The work stations and common area are also sanitized and wiped down every few hours.

GM Is Partnering With Ventec Life System To Help Increase Production Of Ventilators

General Motors is partners with Ventec Life System to help increase production of ventilators that are needed in hospitals dealing who have the novel coronavirus, the companies announce Friday. Seattle-based Ventec is one of a handful of ventilator manufacturers in the U.S, according to NBC news, and already has ramped up its production. Ventec CEO Chris Kiple says the company is aiming to produce 1,000 machines per month (up from its usual 150 per month), in the next 90 days, and eventually to produce 2,000 ventilators per month.

Ventec will relay on GM's manufacturing, logistics and purchasing to help build more ventilators more quickly. GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra said in a statement that GM word "continue to explore ways to help in this time of crisis."

According to the Cleveland news, police spotted a 2015 Buick LaCrosse that had been reported stolen parked at a gas station, police got in contact with OnStar, which enabled Stolen Vehicles Assistance mode on the car, immobilizing it and allowed the police to close in and arrest the suspects.

This isn't the first time Cleveland police have tapped OnStar to help them stow down a stolen vehicle. Last year they used the technology to immobilize a car that had been stolen in a carjacking and it also helped them recover two other stolen vehicles in 2017.
